A Tale of Temper

There was once a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he had to hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discover it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence…

Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone from the fence. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said “You have done well, my son,   look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.

A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Friends are a very rare jewel indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend you an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.

The Beginning

The year 2012 has been a very hard year, with a slow economy and other challenges.. We are hanging tough, I was told years ago that "Cream will rise to the top" and what ever does not break you, will make you stronger!

I want to take time to acknowledge my staff of instructors and Debbie, my office manager for a outstanding Job in student service.
Summer Camp program has been very good, many parents of young children 4 years and up are learning that Martial Arts is great for developing the tools needed to improve their Focus as well as Self-discipline.

One of the highlights of the year was Shane Ross’s trip to the 2012 Haidong Gumdo World Championship in Korea.

Here is Shane's comment about his 1st World Championship;
"My trip to Korea was incredible and the experience I received was amazing. I obtained great guidance from Head Master Kim and from all of the other Haidong masters. The actual trip itself gave me a new perspective on training and motivation to continue doing my best. There is nothing like training at the base of a Korean mountain in the early morning with Head Master Kim and the USA Haidong team. Competing against other members from all over the world made me realize the enormity of the martial art and how we all are unified by a common passion. I was able to do some sight-seeing in Seoul and see the Korean culture first-hand. The overall experience of training, competing, and being immersed into the Korean culture was like nothing else that I have ever been exposed to. I definitely hope to be fortunate enough to go back in two years for the 2014 Haidong Gumdo World Championship."

This championship is held every two years in Korea and students from all over the world come to this 9-day event

Shane competed in all sword cutting events, bamboo, paper, and form competition and was awarded 2 Bronze Medals.
