Taijiquan

Jess

Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) is a “soft” or “internal” martial art, based on the understanding that life is always changing, and the best way to deal with change and adversity is to simply “go with the flow.”

Literally translated, Taijiquan means “supreme ultimate fist.” The “supreme ultimate” is a concept in Chinese thought that is embodied by the Taijitu symbol—the union of Yin and Yang.

When Taijiquan forms are performed with well-bent knees, it becomes a wonderful form of cardiovascular exercise. By teaching the practitioner how to utilize energy more efficiently, as well as how best to breathe, Taijiquan can improve overall health as well as assist athletes in perfecting their chosen sports.

One of the most important aspects of Taijiquan training is stress relief. Not only will the controlled movements whisk away anxiety, but a continual and dedicated study of the art will teach one how to live a more unified and holistic life, able to roll with the punches and deal with situations in an appropriate manner.
