Tang Soo Do: Curriculum

Protocol for the Beginning and End of Class

At the beginning of class:

After the completion of each class:

Student Creed

The Student Creed is intended to define how a student should lead his life inside and outside of the Dojang. The creed contains the essence of the rules each student should follow in order to get the most out of their training and everyday life. The creed contains three statements:

“I intend to develop myself in a positive manner and avoid anything that would reduce my mental growth or my physical health.”

This statement may mean something slightly different to each person, but the basic essence is that each student should avoid any action that would prevent him from growing both physically or mentally. This includes avoiding the use of drugs and alcohol, and not developing biased opinions on individuals based solely on race, creed, or color.

“I intend to develop self-discipline in order to bring out the best in myself and others.”

The lesson here is that only through the development of self-discipline can one expect to achieve the goals set.

“I intend to use what I learn in class constructively and defensively, to help myself and my fellow man and never to be abusive or offensive.”

The essence of what we are teaching here is that we should use the skills learned in training to benefit ourselves and others. Never should we abuse or disgrace the Tang Soo Do traditions by using our skills in an abusive or offensive manner.
